: This study proposes an electromagnetic design strategy to improve the energy efficiency of an electric-vehicle (EV) traction motor by defining a high energy-share operating region using Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) data and enhancing the efficiency within that region. For distributed-winding (DW) and concentrated-winding (CW) models, the stator-to-rotor diameter ratio was varied, and the resulting change in the loading ratio was used as an indicator to evaluate variations in loss and efficiency within the energy-weighted region on the efficiency map through 2D finite element analysis (FEA). The results show that the loss within the weighted region decreased by up to 16.64% compared with the baseline model, and the overall UDDS-cycle energy consumption improved by up to 0.423% relative to the baseline. These findings demonstrate that integrating electromagnetic geometric design with driving-cycle data can serve as a practical metric for improving EV energy efficiency.
